RADICAL REFORMER. CIVIL WAR SURGEON. DEFIANT SUFFRAGIST.
Produced in partnership with the Oswego County Historical Society, Courage and Conviction: Dr Mary Walker's War is the first feature-length documentary to fully chronicle the life of Dr. Mary Edwards Walker (1832–1919), Civil War surgeon and only female Medal of Honor recipient.
The film will trace Walker’s path through her formative childhood in Oswego County, to her tireless fight for an Army commission during the Civil War and her decades-long advocacy for women’s suffrage and dress reform. It will also examine her legacy and the ongoing, contested struggle around her memory.
While the documentary is in pre-production and we source filming locations, schedule interviews, and gather archival materials, you can help support the development of the film with a donation to the Oswego County Historical Society earmarked for this project. Community support is essential in helping to ensure Dr. Walker's story can inspire the next generation to carry forward with courage and conviction.
Additionally, we are actively seeking funding sponsors for this project. Interested businesses, organizations, and individuals are encouraged to view our press kit to evaluate our sponsorship tiers and pledge their support. Thank you for your consideration.
